Rhody falls just short in Governor's Cup game
Hendricken's Aaron Webb hits the open field.

The Rhode Island all-star football team came as close as it has in a long time to knocking off Connecticut this Saturday, but it came up just short.

Playing in the 14th annual Governor’s Cup, Rhode Island threatened late but was stopped on the goal line as Connecticut hung on for the 14-8 victory at the University of Connecticut’s Rentschler Field.

The win was the 10th in a row for Connecticut, which now leads the all-time series 11-3.

With less than a minute to play, Connecticut’s Jevan Elmore intercepted a pass from former Hendricken quarterback Ryan Brannigan on the goal line, ending Rhode Island’s chances of pulling the upset.

Barrington’s Drew Brown scored the only touchdown for Rhode Island.

The game featured eight players from Warwick high schools.
