Known as the hottest festival of music and dance in New England, the annual (and the original) Rhythm & Roots Festival serves as the grand finale to a Rhode Island summer. This five-stages, all-ages festival takes place over Labor Day Weekend at the expansive Ninigret Park in Charlestown, Rhode Island and features 92 live sets over two-and-a-half days.
Thousands of celebrants converge on Ninigret to camp for the weekend, and transform the park into a festive and colorful impromptu village complete with food, drink, flags, arts and shopping. Thousands of others come for the day or choose to stay in nearby lodging-- all to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy dozens of performances running tandem across multiple stages.
The 17th annual festival is hosted by The Duhks, and features iconic jam band Leftover Salmon, Masters of the Fiddle with Natalie MacMaster & Donnell Leahy, Bill Kirchen & Too Much Fun, Steve Riley & Mamou Playboys, Donna the Buffalo's 25th Anniversary Party all 3 days, Anders Osborne, Jim Lauderdale & Travelin’ McCourys, Elizabeth Cook, Matt Andersen, C.J. Chenier and many, many more.
World-class musicians representing musical genres spanning Americana through Zydeco (with every kind of Blues, Rock n' Roll, Folk, Cajun, Bluegrass, Folk and Fun dancing sounds in between) perform live sets across the park. Master musicians also offer free workshops, and favorite bands bring tons of heat to the covered dance floors. Entry to the festival includes all live music, family-friendly activities such as crafts, professional storytellers and performers, themed parades and the popular Cajun Kids Academy.
Artisan crafts, clothing, ethnic foods, beer, wine, ice cream, gifts and more for sale.
