Richard E. Erban, 71, of Warwick passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Diane L. (Miserandino) Erban for 44 years.

Born in Providence, he was a devoted son of Catherine (Nichols)Atkinson and the late Charles F. Erban and the step-son of the late Gordon Atkinson. Mr. Erban served as the Battalion Chief of Safety and Training for the Warwick Fire Department. He was also an instructor for Midland Ambulance Co. for 20 years and the Assistant Coordinator for the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy for 30 years. He also served in the Military Police of The United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He was the loving father of Lt. Jason P. Erban (WFD) and his wife, Karen of Gales Ferry, Connecticut and Justin R. Erban and his wife, Gail of Warwick. He was the cherished grandfather of Amanda, Caitlyn, Cameron, Nathan, Ryleigh and Sydney Kate; and caring brother of Brian Atkinson and Jane E. Dwyer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Clement Church, 111 Long Street, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and asked to go directly to church. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95). Burial will be private.
