Richard J. Hartnett Jr.
Richard J. Hartnett Jr. 84, died January 11, 2012. He was the husband of the late Lorraine M. (Babin) Hartnett.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Richard J. and Mary (O'Reilly) Hartnett Sr. he had resided in Deep River, Conn. for the past five years, formerly residing in New Jersey and in Warwick. Mr. Hartnett was employed as a corporate auditor. He had worked at GMAC for 35 years, retiring as director of internal auditing in 1988.
He was an Army veteran serving in World War II and the Korean War. He had volunteered his time with the Diocese of Norwich Prison Ministry, teaching RCIA at the Niantic Men's Prison and reading at Dorcas Place in Providence to adult men. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He leaves his son, Richard L. Hartnett and his wife, Jill, of Loris, S.C., and his daughter, Lorraine M. Hartnett, MD and her husband, Elli Levy, with whom he resided in Connecticut. He was the grandfather of Elilzabeth A., Richard F. and David G. Hartnett and two great-granddaughters. He was the brother of the late Frank Hartnett and Mary George.
His funeral was held Jan. 14 from Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Timothy Church, Warwick Ave. Entombment was in Our Risen Christ Garden Mausoleum in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, where military honors were accorded.
