Rider ‘critical’ after motorcycle mishap

The Warwick Police responded to an accident involving a truck and motorcycle on Cowesett Road around 6 p.m. Tuseday. The Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.

According to a press release, the operator of the motorcycle, a 30-year-old male from Warwick, was taken to Kent Hospital and later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The truck driver, Jason Shepard, 34, of Providence, was not injured. The initial investigation showed the motorcycle going west on Cowesett Road and the truck was traveling east and turning left onto Hardig Road when the collision occurred. None of the occupants in the truck were injured. There was no passenger on the motorcycle and at this time it does not appear that the operator was wearing a helmet. The cyclist’s identity is being withheld pending notification of the family.

Investigators have interviewed the driver of the truck as well as witnesses. At this time, it appears that the motorcycle’s speed may have been a factor in the collision but it does not appear alcohol was involved.

Anyone with information related to the collision is asked to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at 468-4343.
