“Riding Into A Better Tomorrow” Bike Run to be held

Posted

On Saturday, Aug. 9th, Joe Daigle and friends will sponsor “Riding Into A Better Tomorrow” Bike Run in efforts to raise money for children currently being treated at the Tomorrow Fund Clinic at Hasbro’s Children Hospital in Providence.

The Tomorrow Fund is the only local non-profit organization that reaches out to children with cancer and their families to aid them both financially and emotionally in as many ways as they can. The fund

was founded in 1985 and has grown. It is widely recognized today for its outstanding medical treatment for the sick children, as well as its caring approach towards the children and their families.

This is the third annual Bike Run.

Joe Daigle was a cancer patient who was taken under the wing of the Tomorrow Fund when he was a child. At age 9, he was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, which is a type of bone cancer that primarily affects children and adolescents.

“The Tomorrow Fund helped me and my family out a lot,” said Daigle.

His single mom did not work as to stay with and take care of Joe.

"The Fund would help pay the bills, and also did other things, like provided gifts at Christmas since my mom wasn't working," Daigle explained.

He sponsors the Run as a way to give back.

"I want to give the kids who are going through what I went through the same experience that I had with the Tomorrow Fund," said Daigle.

Daigle has been battling his cancer for a number of years, undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. He also tried a test drug that caused him to have leukemia. However, after receiving a bone marrow transplant, he has been cancer-free. In fact, he just hit his five-year remission mark this past May. He is now 27 years old.

He regularly attends other events that the Tomorrow Fund holds, such as the Annual Fantasy Ball.

Daigle and his friends use motorcycling to channel this event because they enjoy riding.

All are invited to come to this event. Registration to ride runs from 1:30 – 3 p.m., at Adrenaline Cycle, 2555 GAR Highway, Swansea, MA.

Those who plan on riding must bring their own motorcycles, as rentals will not be provided. The motorcyclists will be departing at 3 p.m., and are expected to arrive to the Back Alley Pub around 5 p.m.,

which is located at 1666 Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket, RI.

The Back Alley Pub will be providing the food for the barbeque that will ensue afterwards at 5 p.m. Smoked pulled pork, smoked chicken wings, and smoked beans are a few of the food items that will be provided. There will be a bouncy house for children, as well as a 50/50 raffle.

There is no specific time for this event to end.

“It will end whenever the party ends,” said Daigle.

It is not necessary to partake in riding to contribute.

Those who wish to attend the barbeque only should report to the Back Alley Pub at 5 p.m. There will be a cost of $15 per person, regardless of the activities that they decide to participate in. It is free for children 10 years and under.

Also, all those who purchase a ticket will be entered into a raffle to win an iPad Mini. Should there be rain, the rain date will be Aug. 16th.

Daigle hopes the Run will raise $5,000.

All proceeds will be given to the Tomorrow Fund organization.
