Riding the tide

With Paul Earnshaw in the lead, the Buckeye Brook Coalition held its “riding the tide” paddle Saturday. Earnshaw, who provided these pictures, had the following report: “It was absolutely perfect. With the tide height of 4.2 feet we were able to clear Tidewater Drive Bridge with no difficulty. Everyone really enjoyed the trip and each other’s company as well. After leaving the brook we proceeded to Conimicut Point Park, where we did take a break for about 15 minutes. They were all up to the next leg of the trip, although we encountered a mild but steady head wind, which slowed our advance considerably. Once we passed the area of Barred Ledge, the wind and waves increased. Once we arrived at the rock outcrop of Rocky Point, I chose to turn around. We arrived back at Samuel Gorton Ave. around 1:30, making the full trip in five hours with everyone having had a fantastic day on the water.” Paddlers included George Shuster, Bill Aldrich, Elaine Papa, Marcia Pena, Mike Zarum and Tim Knight.
