Robert L. Armstrong, 78, a lifelong resident of Warwick, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Joyce F. (Gilroy) Armstrong, for 53 years.

Born in Warwick, he was a son of the late Walter and Theresa (Schwarzkopf) Armstrong. Robert was a United States Marine Corps Veteran. He served the Warwick Police Dept. for thirty years, before retiring as Captain. Robert was one of the original members of the WPD SWAT team. He was also employed with the US Marshals Service for fifteen years, before retiring. Robert was a coach for Warwick PAL hockey and baseball, and Warwick Junior Hockey Assoc. He hardly ever missed his grandchildren’s games. Robert was an avid outdoorsman, and Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots fan.

Robert was the loving father of Keith Armstrong and his wife, Lynda, Kevin Armstrong Lt. WFD, (Ret.) and his wife Judy, Kristen Butler and her husband, Joel, Kyle Armstrong, and the late Kerry Armstrong. Grandfather of Amanda Kowalski and her husband, Nick, Taylor Butler, Patrick, Ashley, and Erica Armstrong; Brother of Jack Schwarzkopf, and the late Rita King.

His funeral will be held Friday, January 6, 2017 at 8 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane. Burial with Military Funeral Honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation, Thursday, 4-8 p.m.
