Robert W. Jones, age 85, formerly of Baron Court, Warwick, died on January 17, 2014 at Brentwood Nursing Home in Warwick. He was the beloved husband of Ann M. (McAreavey) Jones.

He was a son of the late Charles W. and Gladys (McElroy) Jones, he lived in Warwick for 85 years. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, and a URI business graduate. Bob was Supervisor of Building and Maintenance for Narragansett Electric Co., where he was employed for 30 years. This expertise in construction transferred to his personal life, for example, building the home he raised his family in.

Bob’s talent for and love of sports began as a high school all-state football quarterback, playing semi-pro ball, coaching youth football as a dad, then culminating in a passionate involvement with URI sports. He was a member of the Fast Break Club at URI. He enjoyed golfing, basketball, bicycling, swimming, and hiking. Enthusiasm for travel lead him to spending summers at the family cottage in Ireland and trips to Italy. Bob was an avid reader, enjoyed spirited political discussions, classical music, good Italian food, and a proper pint of Guinness.

Bob was the loving father of Coleen Keane of Warwick, Barbara Jones-Levy of Saunderstown, Neil Jones and Barry Jones of Palmdale, California, and the late Robert Jones. He was the grandfather of Sara, Robert, and Ashlie Jones; and the brother of Carol Boyajian of Warwick, Donald Jones of West Warwick, and the late Beverly Carey and Patsy Alteri.

The family would like to thank the Brentwood Nursing Home staff for their exemplary care.

His funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to The Seasons, 5 Elizabeth Way, East Greenwich, RI 02818 and/or Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904. www.barrettandcotter.com
