Rocky Hill School hosts leadership and sportsmanship conference

Leadership and Sportsmanship in Athletics, a workshop for rising ninth grade students, will be held at the Rocky Hill School campus on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The goal of the program made possible with a grant from the Rhode Island Interscholastic League is for current high school student athletes and adult mentors to lead a series of workshops that encourage middle school athletes to pursue sports and leadership in upper school and to learn skills and techniques that will help them be better teammates. The program, designed by Rocky Hill School senior Allison DeGerlia of Westerly includes four workshops, lunch, and an address by keynote speaker Joe Andruzzi, the former Patriots offensive guard whose football career was cut short when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Burkitt’s lymphoma in 2007. Andruzzi still works as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Patriots and he founded the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, which helps families battling cancer with financial and emotional support.

Students from Cole Middle School, Saint Michael’s Country Day School, The Pennfield School and The Gordon School have been invited to participate.

The public is welcome to attend the keynote address at 12:50 p.m. in the Campbell Center. Reservations are required. Seating is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Please register online at www.rockyhill.org/leadership.
