Roger Williams Park Zoo is kicking off the summer season on Memorial Day weekend with the return of fun, family-friendly events. Starting May 28, the giraffe feedings will open for the season, while the schedule for behind-the-scenes Harbor Seal Encounters expands on May 31 to include Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Giraffe feedings will take place in the covered giraffe viewing area again this year, and are open to the general public with no online registration required. Participants will pay $5 for three leaves of lettuce to feed the animals, which they can purchase at a booth just before the feeding area. Food can be split among a group, and visitors must be age 3 and older to participate. Giraffe feedings will take place daily from 11:30 a.m.-12 noon, with a limited number of feeds available during each session. This experience will be offered through October 2.

Visitors can enjoy a close-up Harbor Seal Encounters with an expanded schedule that will include Tuesdays and Thursdays – in addition to the current weekend availability – starting on May 31. This special experiences gives guests a behind-the-scenes tour of the newly-renovated harbor seal exhibit, and ends with a feeding for the two stars of the show, seals Action and Bubba. Online registration is required for the Harbor Seal Encounters, as space is limited to 10 guests. They take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and weekends through September 1, and are $20 per person for zoo members or $25 for non-members (must be age 5 or older to participate).

For more information about these events and visiting the Zoo, visit www.rwpzoo.org. Roger Williams Park Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., April through September, and until 4 p.m. in the off-season. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. Admission is $14.95 for adults, $9.95 for children (ages 2-12) and $12.95 for seniors (ages 62); toddlers age one and younger and zoo members are admitted for free.

Roger Williams Park Zoo, one of the oldest in the nation, is Rhode Island’s number one outdoor family and tourist attraction and is also a leader in conservation efforts undertaken by a zoo of its size. The zoo has received numerous awards for environmental education, and conservation work done locally and around the world, caring for species that without human intervention would face certain extinction. Roger Williams Park Zoo is supported and managed by the Rhode Island Zoological Society and is owned by the City of Providence.
