Ronald P. Bertrand, age 69, of Petti Drive, West Warwick, a retired Deputy Chief of the West Warwick Police Department, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Kent Regency Center in Warwick. He was the husband of Carole A. (Passarelli) Bertrand. Born in West Warwick, the son of the late Lionel and Mary (Lavoie) Bertrand, he was a life-long West Warwick resident. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of the Vietnam War era. Mr. Bertrand served on the West Warwick Police Department for 27 years, retiring as Deputy Chief 21 years ago. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa M. Bertrand and Edward Izeman of West Warwick; a son, Paul R. Bertrand of West Warwick; two sisters, Jeanne Bertrand of Warwick and Jeannette Blanchard of West Warwick; and two grandchildren, Racheil J. Bertrand and Andrew Anderson. His funeral will be held on Monday, April 23, at 9 a.m. from the Potvin & Cotter Funeral Home, 45 Curson Street, West Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Providence Street, West Warwick. Visiting hours are Sunday 4-8 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
