Roomful of Blues at the Knickerbocker Café
‘Get-Rid-of-the-Winter Blues Benefit Concert’

The five-time Grammy nominated, award-winning band Roomful of Blues will be featured in a special “Get-Rid-of-the-Winter Blues Benefit Concert” at the Knickerbocker Café, 35 Railroad Ave. in Westerly, Sunday, Jan. 15. The show will take place at a special 4 p.m. start time.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.theknickerbockercafe.com and will also be available at the door. Food and beverages will be available during the concert.

The event will raise funds for the Charlestown Land Trust’s campaign to purchase and preserve 27½ acres of land on the shores of Watchaug Pond in Charlestown so that the land may converted into a nature sanctuary with walking trails. The property, which has been used for decades as a camp for Camp Fire Girls and the YMCA, has been put on the market. The Land Trust has received a matching grant of up to $367,000 from the Rhode Island Department of Environment Management to acquire and preserve the property and spare it from development,. Information about the campaign is available at www.charlestownlandtrust.org.

The eight-member Rhode Island-based Roomful of Blues has played countless clubs and music festivals over the years and received numerous accolades. In addition to their five Grammy nominations, they have received seven Blues Music Awards (formerly WC Handy Awards) –among which were Blues Band of the Year in 2005 – and they’re still going strong.

In 2011, they released the critically acclaimed, “Hook, Line & Sinker,” which drew high praise from USA Today: “excellent, marvelous wall-to-wall grooves…between the wicked guitar work and the brassy horn section, things never stop swinging.” They capped off the year by winning a Boston Music Award for Best Blues Artist.
