The Bishop Hendricken soccer team’s impressive season continued on Wednesday night, as it downed Portsmouth, 2-1, in a battle of Division I unbeatens.

Sophomore midfielder Kevin Torrico made the difference for the Hawks, netting both goals – one in the first half and one in the second – to help Hendricken hand Portsmouth its first loss.

Keeper Ryan Morel stopped five of six Portsmouth shots sent on goal, as Kenneth Armijo was the only Patriot to find the back of the net on a shot during the second half.

Hendricken (5-0-2) was set to travel to North Kingstown on Monday night, but results from that game were unavailable at press time.

The Hawks will endure their toughest test of the season on Wednesday when they host defending state champion La Salle (6-0-1) at 6 p.m. Hendricken and La Salle are the only remaining undefeated teams in Division I.

Central Falls edges Toll Gate

The Titans couldn’t hold a 16-8 halftime lead on Friday night, as Central Falls came back to beat Toll Gate, 35-28, behind a strong second half in Division III football action.

Anthony Vann led the Titans’ offensive charge, rushing for two scores, while Michael Negri and Anthony Calise each posted a rushing touchdown, as well.

However, a key fumble recovery and a kickoff return sparked Central Falls’ comeback after halftime to drop Toll Gate to 1-3 in league play.

The Titans will look to get back on track when they host Tiverton (3-1) on Friday at 7:15 p.m. at Warwick Vets.

Pats earn second D-I win

Kat Raposo netted her second goal of the night with two minutes left to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Pilgrim girls’ soccer team over Cranston West, 3-2, on Thursday.

Raposo and Lila Giguere each posted first-half goals to give Pilgrim a 2-1 lead at the half, before West’s Katie Blake knotted the score with a goal of her own in the second half.

However, Raposo was able to swing the result in the home team’s favor with her game-winner late.

Sophomore forward Alexis Vieira also produced up front for the Pats, notching three assists.

Madison Dowling was tremendous in net, stopping nine of the 11 shots she faced to secure the win.

Pilgrim was looking to keep its momentum rolling at East Greenwich on Monday night, but results were unavailable at press time.

The Pats will next be in action at Warwick Vets against La Salle on Friday at 5 p.m.

Pilgrim holds off Rocky Hill

The Pilgrim field hockey team was able to snap a 1-1 halftime tie with two second-half goals against upset-minded Rocky Hill on Thursday afternoon en route to a 3-1 victory.

Senior captain Paula Cavanagh continued her strong play with two goals, while Mary Comtois added the other goal.

Lindsey Fontes turned aside seven shots to help Pilgrim add one in the win column.

The Pats are now 6-4-1 in Division II and will travel to Lincoln School (10-1) today for a 4:15 p.m. start.
