The Lupus Foundation of New England, working with a group of Rhode Island volunteers, is hosting the fourth annual Runway for a Cure event tonight starting at 6:30 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick.
All proceeds will benefit education, awareness and research efforts by the Lupus Foundation of New England. Tickets are $40. They may be purchased in advance at www.lupusne.org or at the door the evening of the event.
More than 5,000 Rhode Islanders, along with 1.5 million Americans and 5 million people worldwide are living with Lupus today.
Ninety percent of those with Lupus are women in the prime of their lives – career women, mothers, wives and daughters. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body, especially skin, joints, blood and kidneys. Lupus is unpredictable and potentially fatal and no satisfactory treatment or cure exists. Its health consequences can include heart attacks, strokes, seizures or sudden organ failure. It is most common in women between the ages of 15 and 45.
The Runway for a Cure cocktail reception, silent auction and fashion show is an evening dedicated to increasing Lupus awareness in Rhode Island and raising funds for continued research efforts. Silent auction items include: Boston Celtics tickets, weekend getaways to Boston and Newport, golf outings at Rhode Island’s finest courses, PC basketball tickets, spa packages, fabulous jewelry and much more.
