Ruth C. Mott (McCarthy), 93, of Warwick, RI, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Morton Hospital in Taunton, Massachusetts. She was the beloved wife of Slater F. Mott and the late James J. Cotter.

Born in Taunton, MA she was a daughter of the late John F. and Mary “Mae” C. (Brien) McCarthy. Ruth was a 1940 graduate of Taunton High School and a graduate of Bridgewater State College. She owned the Village Day School in Taunton, MA for many years and was a believer that every child was gifted in some way and ran her school encompassing that belief. She later worked as a secretary for Tasco Engineering of North Dighton, MA. In l987 she married Slater Mott and moved to Rhode Island. She and her husband became directors of the Cole Farm Senior Tour Group and enjoyed running this group for many years. Ruth was an active member of People’s Baptist Church in Cranston, RI and served as a financial trustee on the board of directors.

She was the loving mother of Sharon Demaral and her husband, Tony; Dale Cotter and his wife, Sheila Stackhouse, Joan Dowd and her husband, Tom, Robin Sacco and her husband, Rob, Christine Desalliers and her husband, Jack, Kevin Cotter and his wife, Chris, Daniel Cotter, Colleen Banat and the late Kim DeCastro; stepmother of Paul Mott and Paula Metivier. She is also survived by several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Howard McCarthy and Dorothea Wise.

Her funeral service will be held Monday, October 19, at 11 a.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6 p.m. Information and condolences, visit TheQuinnFuneralHome.com
