Ruth M. (Kurowsky) Whalen, 82, of West Greenwich, died peacefully on Sunday, December 13, 2015, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence. She was the wife of the late Paul R. “Porky” Whalen.

She was born in Providence to the late Frank Kurowski and Natalie Small Kurowski. She lived and raised her family in Warwick. Upon retirement Ruth and Paul loved snow birding in Florida. Ruth loved to laugh, travel and go to the casinos with her girls.

She leaves one son, Thomas Whalen, four daughters, Donna Whalen, Terry Pereira, Ann-Frances Shpack and Leah Ferreira; grandchildren, Kerri Whalen, Erin Whalen, Shannon Pereira and Michelle Mullen, Richard and Christopher Whalen, Michael and James Whalen, Hillary Victoria Shpack, Joseph Silveira and Hunter Ferreira; and ten great-grandchildren; seven siblings: Louise Williams, Richard Kurowski, Carolyn Kurowsky, Natalie Kurowsky, Robert Kurowski, Evelyn Erbele and Thomas Kurowski. She is preceded in death by three sons: Paul Jr., Richard and Gary Whalen.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 16, at Woodbury Union Church, Presbyterian, 58 Beach Avenue at West Shore Road, Warwick, with visitation from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m., followed by a “Celebration of Life” at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
