Warwick Rep. K. Joseph Shekarchi was one of 36 legislators and news media people invited to play Black Jack for Charity hosted by Twin River Dec. 14. Shekarchi is seen here with Joanne Rego of Volunteer Services for Animals of Warwick, one of 35 non-profits benefiting from the event. Also at the tables was Sen. Michael McCaffrey of Warwick, who played for the benefit of the Rhode Island Academic Decathlon. Both Shekarchi and McCaffrey brought home $1,000 for the charities they selected. A total of $60,000 was donated. All charities received a minimum $1,000 with $10,000 going to WellOne Primary Medical and Dental Care. Rep. Cale Keable played for the clinic. To date, $240,000 has been given to local charities from this festive holiday event. (Warwick Beacon photo)
