Work resumed yesterday on dismantling the geodesic dome on Airport Road, a project being taken on and funded by Robert Corio, who set out to save the historic structure built in 1962. The dome will be offered to municipalities in hopes of it finding a public home. For the time being, panels are being warehoused as Capital City Construction removes them. Al DeRobbio, who runs the company with his wife Lori, said it took more than an hour to remove the top panel, but now the job is going faster. At right, Aaron DeRobbio looks on as Albert Lunsmann cuts through rivets with a grinder. Corio and Norman Cook, an engineer and teacher, stepped forward when the Rhode Island Airport Corporation announced the dome would be demolished to make way for an Enterprise Rent-A-Car facility.
