Construction of the Station Fire Memorial in memory of the 100 who lost their lives in the nightclub fire on Feb. 20, 2003 has slowed with the arrival of colder weather. Built on the site of the nightclub in West Warwick, the memorial is projected for completion in the spring, when it will be dedicated. Former Governor Donald Carcieri and Station fire survivor Gina Russo co-chaired the recently completed $2 million capital campaign to build the memorial. After entering a gate, the park opens into a series of circles with granite markers for each of the deceased and a pavilion overlooking the memorial park. The park contains a vault where items belonging to the deceased and items and notes left in their memorial are stored. (Warwick Beacon photos)
