Pilgrim High School graduate Emerson Torem is a recipient of a $1,000 Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship. In his scholarship application, Torem said that his father helped him overcome autism by working with him on sports and by making friends he has been able to overcome social anxieties. His plan is to attend CCRI and earn an associate’s degree in technology and then go on to URI. He is one of more than two dozen applicants for a scholarship in the memory of Catherine T. Murray, a late Warwick teacher who volunteered for the Ocean State Council of Independent Living. OSCIL director Lorna Ricci is pictured with Emerson and his father Chris Torem.
