Scarecrows in Pawtuxet

Posted

During the entire month of October, the Friends of Pawtuxet Village group is holding its annual Scarecrow Contest.

Community groups, youth groups, schools, libraries, and creative individuals have already participated. Participate in the contest by adopting one of the historic light poles on Broad Street and creating a scarecrow for display. The entry awarded best of show will receive a cash prize.

There are only 16 poles available, so the contest is on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested may also speak with one of the business owners about putting a scarecrow in front of their store.

At press time, the following locations were in need of creative scarecrows: O’Rourke’s, On the Bridge West Side #1, Betty’s Candies, Essence Yoga, Pawtuxet Baptist Church, Sunoco Gas, Village Art & Antiques, and the Gulf gas station.

Unfortunately, there has been some vandalism with some of the scarecrows. It is asked that any such incidents be reported to the police department.

For more information on the contest or placing a creative scarecrow, contact info@friendsofpawtuxetvillage.org. Members of the community may vote for their favorite scarecrow by filling out a ballot at Twice Told Tales, Revolution American Bistro, or Cork & Brew and Spirits Too. Ballots are not valid without a full name and email address, and no ballots will be accepted by mail. There is a $1 cost to vote, and proceeds will benefit local charities.
