Twenty-two Cedar Hill School students vied Tuesday for the honor to go on to the State Spelling Bee sponsored by the Valley Breeze Newspapers to be held March 11 at Lincoln Middle School. Competitors were given a list of 450 words that could be used in the contest. In addition, challenge words were used in the competition and it was one of those – “dermatologist” – that determined the winner after 90 minutes. Lakshana Ramanan (left) will go on to the state bee. Shrinidhi Sudhakar Gayathridevi placed second. Students collected pledges for the words they spelled correctly as a PTO fundraiser that brought $1,500 to the school. (Warwick Beacon photo)
