More than 100 Pilgrim and Toll Gate students picketed the School Administration yesterday to voice concerns over the School Committee’s decision not to endorse the City Council’s request for an independent third-party investigation of the special education program. Toll Gate senior Zach Colon (pictured in foreground) organized the protest. Colon acknowledged that the Department of Education is scheduled to conduct a review of the special education program but maintained a “full investigation is needed.” Pilgrim student and one of the organizers Mary Mullane reasoned the committee should reach a contract with teachers. She said student voices have been ignored and called for student representatives to have a seat at talks between the union and the committee. (Warwick Beacon photo)

Post to Warwick Watch that will NOT be deleted: Is there a more pathetic figure in Warwick then Stacia Huyler? This uninformed, ambulance chasing, bored, housewife calls herself an "activist", a title fitting of someone with no purpose in life. She condemns the students who took a stand, while not giving a reason. The real reason is the Tollgate Class President (who organized the protest) supported her opponent Evan Shanley in the general election. She actually criticized him when he moderated the mayoral debate, again for no reason. Can you imagine? A lady who outed a transgender teen at Pilgrim on Facebook, made up fake accounts on this very site to act as her own "supporters", posted the license plate of a city employees elderly parents on social media. That lady is calling someone else's motives into question??? Give me a break! Stacia Huyler ran twice and was TROUNCED both times. She has this false sense of support that can only come from a borderline personality disorder. I hope she recieves the mental health treatment she needs, as clearly someone needs to step in and say enough.

I'm tired of watching opposing opinions being deleted off of her page. She doesn't have the mental capacity to have an honest debate, so she slings false information and conspiracy theories in the hopes one day she may be right about something. Filming the Appanaoug roundabouts doesn't make you an activist, it makes you delusional. Following city employees around doesn't make you a "blogger", it makes you a stalker. Anytime you want to debate Stacia, somewhere where you're unable to delete and edit comments to try and make yourself look smart. If there is all this support city wide for you, why are you so irrelevant? Until then I look forward to more traffic videos and the other dreck you post daily. The people in this city know exactly the type of person you are...You are a keyboard activist. Solving the world's problems one Facebook post at a time. Truly pathetic!!!

The students deserve credit for organizing this on behalf of fellow classmates. People can say "they don't even know what they're protesting" and that may be true for some. However, that type of statement discredits the students who were there for the right reasons. It's clear that Phil Thornton has no interest in hearing opinions other than his own and that is sad. I wouldn't expect him to cave on everything, but atleast acknowledge there's work to be done "together". Flexibility on both sides is important and i hope there is more of it in the future.

PS: Rick Corrente, no response needed, we know where you stand on all these issues. The voters made their choice...

    Dear Scal1024,

You would deny me the opportunity to agree with you? (during the Christmas season?)

Everything you said in paragraph three I agree with wholeheartedly!

As far as your comments about Stacia, I feel they were a little bit harsh.

Opposing opinions should be embraced, listened to, and respected, not criticized, condemned and deleted. (as with you and me). How else can solutions be found? It won't happen with "Yes men."

As far as the election, I am very proud of my campaign. I refused ALL Political Action Committee checks and still earned the trust and support of 13,278 voters. Avedisian accepted 237 PAC checks. (237 Scal1024!). That "bought" him 24,000 votes. I WOULD HAVE BEEN accountable solely to the taxpayers. He IS accountable to the 237 PACs that got him elected. As I go through my day, people are coming up to me and are calling me "The Taxpayers Mayor".I will start 2018 with a base of taxpayers, not political insiders. See you then Scal1024.

Happy New Year to you and your family.

    Rick

    P.S. Hey Scal,

What do you think the outcome would have been if Avedisian DIDN'T have 237 Political Action Committees backing him?

You know; like a level playing field.

    Talk soon. 401-338-9900.

Gee...I guess I'm not the only one Stacia banned from the Warwick Watch page. It's easy to stifle debate and different points of view when you restrict your page to only those who see things your way.

Stacia.....why are you afraid of free speech?

Rick, the outcome wouldn't be different. I feel that's a big point you are missing in this whole thing. For 2 years you put your ideas out there, and they were rejected. I didn't hear the mayor's campaign complain that you started (2 years) well ahead of them.

The debate didn't do you any favors. After taking personal shots at the mayor and slamming his ideas, you sat next to him in almost lockstep agreement for the entire 90 minutes.

Finally, I had an easier time getting you to acknowledge your specific plans, than to acknowledge your delinquent taxes. Don't you think voters deserve an answer? Why is it fair for you to loan yourself $30,000 while skipping out on taxes/rent? Again Rick, this question won't go away. You aren't going to pander here daily, while ignoring these questions.
