David and Nancy Dickerman renewed their wedding vows Aug. 31 at the Greenwood Community Church Presbyterian during the regular Sunday worship service offered by Rev. Dr. Pastor Stephen Clark. Many of those who were present for the wedding on Aug. 29, 1964 were in attendance, including their best man, Dana Dickerman and maid of honor, Marilyn Powell. Music brought the couple together. Nancy, a graduate of Vets where she marched in the school band that performed in JFK’s inaugural, was in her freshman year at URI when they married. She met David, who had moved to Providence from Pittsburgh and had already graduated from college, when he came to sing in the church choir. The couple still sings in the choir. As an anniversary gift, their four children brought the entire family together, including their seven grandchildren, for a weeklong vacation on Martha’s Vineyard. As they did in 1964, the couple exchanged vows in the church sanctuary followed by a reception downstairs. One thing they didn’t repeat was their honeymoon trip to Niagara Falls. But they have returned to the falls in the last 50 years and Nancy believes they’ll visit again.
