Sam’s Club reopens this morning at 25 Pace Blvd. The new location promises to bring jobs, a preferred member shopping experience, and access to savings on quality products, including a number of products made in Rhode Island, to the area.

According to a press release, Sam’s Club has been serving the region for more than 18 years, and the new store promises to serve the Warwick community for many years to come. The former store closed in February 2011. It was razed and the site was cleaned of pollutants before construction of the new 116,000-square-foot store.

“Not only will we have exciting merchandise at competitive prices, but our member service will be above and beyond expectations,” said local Sam’s Club manager Gabriel Urueta in the release. “We have high expectations for our club and look forward to working with our community again.”

Governor Lincoln Chafee was expected to join the club Wednesday night for a special preview event.

“It is critical to our economy that nationwide businesses like Sam’s Club continue to invest in infrastructure improvements and continued growth in Rhode Island,” said Chafee. “The enhancements and additional services now available, including a new pharmacy, upgraded tire service center, hearing aid station and café, help to create the 140 full- and part-time jobs available to Rhode Islanders.”

During last night’s preview, Urueta and Chafee were slated to present $30,000 in grants to the Boys and Girls Club of Warwick, J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center, Warwick Police Department, Warwick Fire Department, Operation Home Front New England, Warwick Animal Shelter and Rhode Island Family Shelter.

Mayor Scott Avedisian and members of the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce are expected to be present for today’s grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting.

“Sam’s Club has been a member of this community for many years,” said Mayor Avedisian. “We look forward to celebrating their new club and the jobs provided to the members of our community.”

During the grand opening, Sam’s Club will showcase a variety of special events inside, including some from local favorites Cape Cod Cranberry Harvest jelly and Warwick Ice Cream, located only one mile from the club. The Warwick Fire Department will also be there, handing out free batteries, courtesy of Duracell, to recharge smoke detectors.

In addition, free health screenings will also be given to assess total cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol), glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, bone density and hearing, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday.
