Sandwich Junction: great food and service you can depend on

Posted

There are some things in life that you can just depend on - like sunrises at daybreak, and thunderstorms in summer, and beach traffic in August, and on every Wednesday, the sight of Reggie and Doris Gaudet at the Sandwich Junction in Warwick. Reggie and Doris Gaudet, a cheerful and sprightly couple in their youthful 80's, make a visit to Sandwich Junction a part of their weekly routine. While every so often they will try something new, their choice of sandwich (the popular ham & cheese sandwich, aka the "Baggage Car") is as dependable as the sunrise. Reggie jokingly teases Doris saying: "If she doesn't want to cook, what can I do? I am too old to learn how - so we come to the Sandwich Junction once a week, and [with a wink] sometimes twice!" The Gaudets, who love this cozy sandwich shop, have been coming here for almost as long as Sandwich Junction has been open, and you can be sure that they will be dining for years to come because the crew here loves them right back.

Sandwich Junction is a favorite of locals like the Gaudets and newcomers alike. Once the home of the Hillsgrove Post Office, this family-owned restaurant has been serving up wholesome lunch food for over 35 years. This familiar "sandwich joint", tucked up against the railroad tracks, hearkens back to the days when life was simple, food was fresh and unprocessed, and good service came with a genuine smile. Customers who frequent the Sandwich Junction drive right past a row of fast food chains just to taste this home-style cooking. They know they can depend on a great selection of homemade hot and cold sandwiches, soups, salads, side dishes, available here every day.

Some of the many classic sandwich combinations you will discover here include ones which make a direct reference to the railroad legacy of the Junction, including the "Cannonball Express" (meatballs and provolone) or the "Mail Car" (salami and provolone) or the "Italian Flyer" (cappicola and turkey). Along with their extensive regular menu, check out their many daily specials such as the Chicken Club Wrap (grilled chicken with bacon, lettuce, tomato and homemade chipotle mayonnaise) or the long list of summery salads made fresh here everyday (tuna, pasta and potato salads are crowd favorites). It doesn't get any better than this (well, the juicy burgers and decadent desserts are pretty awesome too!)

Sandwich Junction also has a huge selection of special occasion platters available for your next family gathering, including their hunger-busting 5-Foot Party Hero - call for more information.

Sandwich Junction is located at 86 Kilvert Street, just two blocks north of the airport. Hours are Monday through Friday 10 am to 4 pm. Cash only please. To place an advance order, call 738-0559.
