The CCRI track and field team traveled to UMass-Dartmouth to compete in the UMass-Dartmouth Corsair Classic Invitational on Sunday.

Leading the Knights was Kody Sankey (Cumberland, R.I.), who placed fifth in the 1,500m run in a time of four minutes, 16.84 seconds, which was an NJCAA Division III national championship qualifying time. Sankey also qualified for the championship on Saturday after placing 11th in the 5,000m. Lee Mandanici (Medina, Ohio) performed well by placing ninth in both the 400m and 200m races. His time in the 400m was 53.16 seconds and 23.89 seconds in the 200m.

On the Lady Knights’ side, thrower Alicia Moran (Warwick, R.I.) also qualified for this year’s National NJCAA Division III meet in the shot put and discus events. Moran placed 20th in the discus with a throw of 20.27m, then followed that by placing 22nd in the shot put with an 8.01m toss.

There were also other Knights and Lady Knights who performed well at the Corsair Classic. Middle-distance specialist Mike Dutka (Chepachet, R.I.) placed 31st in the 1,500m race with a time of 4:52.43. Dutka also placed 18th in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:34.21. He had already qualified for the nationals in the 10,000m event last week at Bridgewater. Dutka had hoped to qualify in the 5,000m run as well, but will continue trying as the season progresses. Hurdler Connor Williamson (West Warwick, R.I.) placed eighth in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:09.23. Sprinter Giovanni Colon (Providence, R.I.) placed 29th in the 100m dash with a time of 12.52. Ian Fletcher (Lincoln, R.I.) placed 31st in the 800m run in a career-best time of 2:30.50. Rounding out the CCRI performances was Nina Perez (Providence, R.I.), who placed 44th in the 100m dash with a time of 15.91 seconds, while placing 57th in the 200m dash in a time of 33.91 and placed 20th in the 400m dash in 1:15.60.

CCRI has next weekend off before traveling to Fitchburg State University on Saturday, April 16, to compete in the Eric Loeschner Invitational beginning at 7:30 a.m.
