Santa Claus is coming to Smith-Appleby House

Bring the kids and cameras to share Christmas wish lists and a photo opportunity with Santa and Mrs. Claus from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8 at the historic Smith-Appleby House Museum in Smithfield.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will pose for photos and discuss Christmas wish lists with kids, as volunteers in period dress present the history of the 315-year-old family farm home. The Smith-Appleby House was built, circa 1696, as a one-room stone-ender with a loft by Elisha Smith, a grandson of one of Roger William’s original party of six men who left the Massachusetts Bay Colony to settle in Providence. Later generations of the family expanded the House to 12 rooms and now the house and grounds are a living museum of Rhode Island history. Colonial-era characters conduct tours and demonstrations depicting life during the Revolutionary War. The house features original furnishings, designs and exhibits.

There is a $5 donation for adults. Children are free. No reservations are needed. The Smith-Appleby House Museum is located at 220 Stillwater Rd. in Smithfield, just off I-295.
