Sargent Rehabilitation Center will celebrate the opening of the Regional Resource Center (RRC) with a dedication ceremony Thursday, June 20 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The 3,000-square-foot building located on the Sargent Campus in Warwick was built to provide family and professional education and training. The fully accessible facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and the space capacity for meetings, classroom, and seminar or conference presentations.

The center is intended to serve the Southern New England states with Rhode Island as its home. The center’s mission is to convene knowledge. Contributions from families, education and medical rehabilitation experts will provide the leadership fund of knowledge to advance the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities through consultation, training, advocacy and influencing public policy.

The center will offer parent and family seminars and workshops and professional development seminars with the capability of offering CEUs through the center’s latest partnership with URI.

Additional community partners, including Roger Williams University School of Law, PSN-RI and LRP, the largest publisher of Legal and Regulatory information for school administrators in the U.S., have joined with the RRC to develop a network of referral services and as primary sponsors in family and professional training and conferences.

The RRC will also offer a center for public policy that will provide a round table think tank combining legislators, families and professionals to advance and influence public policy affecting the lives of persons with disabilities.

David A. Kane, Esq., vice-president of Sargent Rehabilitation Center, heads the Regional Resource Center.

Sargent Rehabilitation Center, founded in 1917, specializes in outpatient medical rehabilitation and education services for children and adults with disabilities with the goal of moving clients toward maximum community access to education, daily living and employment. Sargent offers a pediatric program for children with complicated neurological, autism spectrum and behavioral disorders; a neuro-rehabilitation program for adolescents and adults who have sustained brain injuries; and the Regional Resource Center for training, consultation and technical assistance to families of individuals with disabilities, as well as professional development for educational, medical rehabilitation and psycho-social specialists. The center’s vision is “achieving the extraordinary in rehabilitating human potential.” Sargent serves more than 1,500 individuals and families each year.
