Senator Michael McCaffrey issued two $1,000 scholarships to seniors in the two high schools in his district, Veterans Memorial and Pilgrim High School. The Senator McCaffrey Public Service Scholarship is funded by McCaffery’s campaign fund and this is second year rewarding the scholarship. Principals of each school, Gerald Habershaw and Marie Cote nominated a senior for their school. Above, Amy Sevigny, a senior at Vets, was awarded the scholarship on May 30. Senator Michael McCaffrey met Amy outside the school to personally give Amy scholarship check. Habershaw, nominated Amy for her participation throughout the Warwick public school system. She has been a member of the Vets marching and jazz band all four years she has attended Vets. During the summer months, Amy helps the secretaries at John Wickes and Warwick Neck Elementary schools to prepare for the upcoming school year. She also helps the nighttime custodians for elementary schools to clean classrooms and volunteers with the Boy Scouts. This fall Amy will be attending Northeastern University in Boston to study Chemical Engineering. She is pictured with McCaffrey and Habershaw. Marie Cote nominated Oluwaseun Akinnusotu, below. He is the first male to receive the scholarship. Cote said, “He is a fine young man. He is a quiet boy so he slips under the radar, but he deserved to be recognized for all the good he does. Oluwaseun has participated as a linebacker for the Pilgrim football team and a wrestles for the school in the winter sports season. He serves his community by volunteering at a daycare as well as for the Boys and Girls Club’s summer camps. Oluwaseun will be attending the University of Rhode Island in the fall to focus on his general studies first. He plans to try out for their football team. He is pictured above with McCaffrey, Principal Cote and his guidance counselor Donna Tobin.

Looks like Senator McCaffrey has lost some weight. Must be drinking more water.
