Warwick Schools will distribute an estimated 500 Chromebooks to the parents of sixth, seventh and eighth graders at a Chromebooks Carnival Saturday, August 20 at Gorton School, 69 Draper Avenue.
Students many accompany their parents to the carnival, but only parents or guardians will be permitted to obtain a Chromebook, according to the department. The carnival is part of a district-wide initiative to give students the technology they need to succeed in the classroom and help them prepare for whatever future career they choose.
“Computer technology long ago became a part of everyday life for all of us,” Superintendent Phil Thornton said in a statement. “It has made work in many ways more efficient and more collaborative. The same is true in education for both our students and our teachers. This is a big step forward for our district, helping ensure all our students get the education they deserve.”
The Chromebook Carnival will consist of morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The afternoon session will run from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Families are asked to sign up for a session using a form found at http://goo.gl/forms/LQOHSqHTkpbGeg933.
Sessions will be closed once they reach capacity. Additional sessions will be added later in August to accommodate families that can't make the August 20 rollout.
Throughout the day, the Warwick Public Schools technology department will offer free information sessions for families wishing to learn about use and care of Chromebooks.
In advance of picking up the Chromebook for their child, parents and guardians are required to download the Chromebook agreement, found at https://goo.gl/qHO7sX
Parents wishing to purchase optional insurance for the Chromebook can do so at https://goo.gl/Gkx3bl. For more information call 734-3094.

We have to give credit where credit is due. 500 Chromebooks is a great step in the right direction. We need more of them but I won't downplay this gesture or all the time and effort that went into it. Dr. Thornton, this was a great accomplishment. Please give us more.
Thank you
