Schools without protection

To the Editor:

As a parent of a student in the Warwick school system, I am concerned! Yes, especially after the tragedy at Sandy Hook School. Here in Warwick, we have no protection for our students from anyone who wants to enter our schools.
According to statistics, 92 percent of the nation’s schools have protection against intruders, but here in Warwick, we have none. My daughter, now age 12, has attended Cedar Hill, John Wickes, Drum Rock and now Winman. I have visited each school over the years and have always been able to just walk in and have never been challenged by anyone.
Isn’t it time for our elected officials to wake up and start to provide security for our schools? Sure it will cost money and probably cause higher taxes – so what! Our children’s safety is worth it!

The chance of your kid being killed by a shooter in school is about the same as you winning the lottery. Relax. No need to raise taxes. Tell your principal to lock the doors. Don't raise my taxes for armed guards.
