‘Senior’ prom a hit at Pilgrim Center

High school students aren’t the only ones attending prom this year. The seniors from the Pilgrim Senior Center, clad in gowns and tuxes, had a prom of their own Thursday, June 18.

One hundred and twenty seniors, clad in gowns and tuxes, got to boogie at the center thanks to a partnership between the Pilgrim Senior Center, West Shore Health Center and Riverview Healthcare.

The “Senior Prom” was held at the center and sponsored by the other two parties that provided food and beverages.

When the three groups had begun discussing holding an event, seniors quickly chimed in and said they wanted a dance.

The theme was “Putting on the Ritz” and the prom had a champagne fountain, a photo area for prom photos with friends and loved ones and the Centracchio Quintet performed all night long.

Holly Weber, activities director for the Pilgrim Senior Center, said that often seniors don’t have an opportunity to go out with their peers and dress up.

“It was awesome. They all had a great time,” Weber said. “They danced all night and have been raving since.”

Due to the success of the event, Pilgrim Senior Center, Riverview Healthcare and the West Shore Health Center may make the prom an annual event.
