Michael Sepe, who has chaired the Cranston Democratic City Committee for nearly two decades, has stepped down from the post to focus on his campaign for mayor.
The committee last week elected Mario G. Carlino, who has served on the Zoning Board of Review and as the Ward 5 representative on the City Council, as its new chairman.
“I am excited, honored, and humbled for being selected city chair,” Carlino said. “I wish to build upon the solid foundation created by Mike Sepe and his late father, as well as many others that came before him … I will continue to build strong relationships within our party as well as bring youth, diversity, and foster new ideas to grow stronger.”
Sepe, who between 1984 and 1996 served a ward and citywide council and as vice president and president of the body, was elected chairman of the city committee in 1997. He also served as president of the Rhode Island Association of Democratic City and Town Chairmen from 2003 to 2005.
Sepe has received the party’s endorsement for mayor, and will face incumbent Republican Allan Fung on the November ballot.
