Sgt. Maj. Richard W. Conard, U.S.M.C. (Ret.), 90, of Evergreen St., Cranston, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara M. (Snarski) Conard.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Richard and Helen G. (Pierson) Conard. Mr. Conard was a veteran of World War II, Korea and served three tours in Vietnam. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star Medal and three Purple Hearts. After retiring from the military, he was Chief of Police at the VA Medical Center in Providence. He was an active Mason and Shriner in both Rhode Island and Maine; a Boy Scout leader; and a member of the Marine Corps League.

Mr. Conard was the devoted father of Richard W. Conard, Jr. and his wife, Rosanne and Sharon B. Conard-Orrall, all of Cranston; loving grandfather of six; loving great-grandfather of two; and dear brother of Robert Conard of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey and the late Margaret Balch and Helen Peters.

His funeral Service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on Saturday, February 21st at 9 a.m., in the Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by burial with military honors at Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. Visiting hours are Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
