More than 900 city and town officials in Rhode Island are expected to attend the 15th Annual Convention and Exposition of the Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns today at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick.

Designed exclusively for local government officials, the League’s convention will feature 18 workshops and seminars on a wide range of timely public policy, municipal management and professional development issues. The exposition will feature over 100 private companies, numerous departments and agencies of state government and several non-profit institutions that will showcase the latest products and services available to local government officials.

The theme of the League’s convention this year is “Sharing Ideas-Improving Our Communities” and, according to Dan Beardsley, League executive director, “This years convention is focused on providing local government officials with the widest array of seminar and workshop subject matter in order to strengthen and improve the efficiency of virtually every component of local government operations,” he said in a statement.

He added, “These sessions will provide public works, finance and planning officials and attorneys, public safety personnel and municipal CEO’s with the most up-to-date information available to streamline municipal services and make them more cost-effective for our citizens.”

The League is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan association of cities and towns that provides its member communities with a broad range of services including lobbying and advocacy, training and education, research and management assistance, and the R.I. Energy Aggregation Program which has saved cities and towns close to $40 million dollars on their costs for electricity.
