The CCRI Lady Knights softball team hosted the Bulldogs of Dean College for a doubleheader Sunday at Winslow Park. The Lady Knights swept the Bulldogs 9-0 and 8-0 to improve to 16-8 overall and 9-1 in Region XXI play.

Game 1: CCRI- 9 Dean College- 0

Game 2: CCRI- 8 Dean College- 0

In the circle for the Lady Knights for both games was Courtney Sheridan (Warwick, R.I.), who continued her dominance as she threw two five-inning shutouts to improve to 11-5 on the season. In the first game, Sheridan threw a five-inning two-hitter, allowing two walks while striking out seven Dean batters. In the second game, she improved on her excellent performance by throwing a one-hitter over five innings and striking out six Dean batters. Sheridan has been dominant this year as she closes in on 100 strikeouts with 98 so far this year, which ranks her No. 32 by the NJCAA in Division II. She also has a chance with four regular season games and playoffs to break the CCRI single-season record with 131, set by Marian Long in 2010.

Offensively for CCRI, it outscored Dean, 17-0, over the double dip with many players charting multiple hits, RBIs and runs scored. Leading the way was Jenna Beauchamp (Warwick, R.I.) with four hits, four RBIs and three runs scored, Kristina Rodriguez (North Kingstown, R.I.) with four hits, two doubles, four runs scored and an RBI and Maddy Cooper (Pawtucket, R.I.) with four hits, including a double and triple with four RBIs and three runs scored. Tri-Captain Jess Spargo (Westerly, R.I.) had two hits and two RBIs and Bella Malvinni (Westerly, R.I.) added two hits, including a triple, two RBIs and a run scored.  Also contributing were Tri-Captain Erica Jewett (Coventry, R.I.), Meghan Rousseau (Richmond, R.I.) and Sheridan, who all registered a double, an RBI and a run scored apiece.

Offensively on the year, the Lady Knights have been one of the best hitting teams in the nation, ranked No. 18 in Division II with a .386 batting average, led by Cooper, who is individually ranked No. 16 by the NJCAA in Division II, batting a robust .521.
