Shirley E. (Wyman) Sneed, 94, who died on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Riverview Healthcare Community where she resided since 2007, was the beloved wife of the late Edward L. Sneed Jr.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late William C. and Dorothy (Ash) Wyman, she had previously been a lifetime resident of Warwick. Mrs. Sneed attended Bryant College. She was employed by the Warwick School Department as a secretary for more than 25 years, serving for 23 years at Aldrich Junior High School and for 2 ½ years at Winman Junior High School, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Warwick, where she served as organist for 30 years and as choir director for 15 years. She served as a deaconess for several years and was ultimately named a lifetime deaconess. She was a member of Friendship Circle, the church's ladies group, where she served for several years as secretary and also as treasurer.

She was a member of the Kent County Hospital Auxiliary. After her retirement, she served for 20 years as a volunteer at the hospital. She will be remembered as someone who made friends easily and then remained loyal and thoughtful to those friends. Family was paramount to her. She was especially close to her cousin Barbara Boutilier. She was always cheerful, especially when talking about Maine, her beagle, Sister, and her Christian faith. Her musical talent graced many a Sunday service.

She is survived by her son, Robert Sneed, and his wife, Rena, of Westwood, New Jersey, and by her daughter, Kathy Nelson, and her husband, Bruce, of Fort Collins, Colorado. She was a loving grandma to her four grandchildren: Rebecca Menendez, Christine Nurnberger, Matthew Sneed, and Laura Nelson, and to her two great-grandchildren: Ryan Nurnberger and Hailey Sneed. She was the sister of Marjorie Ruff of Woodbury, Connecticut, and of the late Dorothy West and Ruth Perkins. She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law, Peggy Sneed, of Scotch Plains, NJ, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held on Sunday, April 24 at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Her funeral service was held on Monday, April 25 at 11:00 A.M. in Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Avenue, Warwick. Burial followed in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.
