The fifth grade at Our Lady of Mercy School in East Greenwich is learning about the Olympics this winter and on Tuesday, the class got an up-close look at a bona fide Olympic gold medal.

Warwick’s Sara DeCosta Hayes, a member of the 1998 and 2002 United States women’s hockey teams, stopped by the class and shared stories of her time in the games. She also showed off the gold medal she won in 1998 and the silver medal from 2002, along with her jersey, helmet and glove. (Warwick Beacon photos by William Geoghegan)
