Shreck is in the limelight at Hendricken Summer Stage opening tonight

Bishop Hendricken High School's Summer Stage program proudly presents "Shrek The Musical ," opening tonight and running through Sunday, at the school's air-conditioned Harrop Theater.

Show times are 7 p.m. the evenings of Thursday-Saturday, July 25-27, and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students, and can be purchased at Bishop Hendricken's on-campus box office or on-line at www.hendricken.com/arts/boxoffice.

The musical tells the story of Shrek, a large green ogre who heroic deeds help save his swamp and his beloved Princess Fiona. Along the way, he gets help from his unlikely friend Donkey and overcomes the reign of the evil Lord Farquaad.

Joseph Fielding directs the Bishop Hendricken version of the show, and Alex McKhann is the production manager. The lead role of Shrek is played by Mike Villanueva.

The musical is based on the popular DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig. It was originally produced on Broadway by Dreamworks Theatricals and Neil Street Productions. The show's book and lyrics are written by David Lindsay Abaire, and the music is by Jeanine Tesori.
