While weather forecasts had them thinking twice, Saturday’s slushy snow storm didn’t stop three Vets students, all members of the school’s DECA chapter, from moving ahead with their community service project on Sunday. With the help of LiteRock 105 FM and contributions from local businesses, including Dunkin’ Donuts, Corner Bakery Café, Walgreen’s, Dave’s Marketplace and others, they staged a bazaar at the school’s gym on Sunday. Twenty-eight vendors participated. There was face painting and crafts for the kids. There was also an opportunity to write notes to our troops stationed overseas that will generate $1 from Macy’s, which will go to beneficiary non-profits. Among organizations benefiting, are Westbay Marketplace, Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter, Make a Wish, Children’s Wish and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “We said a couple of times it’s not happening,” a Vets junior said of the event, “but here we are.” From left are organizers of the community service project, Jasper Duru, Elice Beaker and Nick Marold.
