To the Editor:

On August 23 you published an excellent letter from John Cervone concerning the right of Sgt. Gary Stein to speak critically of Mr. Obama and question his right to be president on his Facebook page. Mr. Cervone relates to us that in fact by doing so, Sgt. Stein received an other-than-honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps.
Some online comments about Mr. Cervone’s letter have called into question Sgt. Stein’s right to do so under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Part of that code states, “I do solemnly swear [or affirm] that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States.” Herein lies the problem.
If Mr. Obama were indeed President of the United States, then perhaps Sgt. Stein’s words would be inappropriate, but the tragic reality is that we haven’t had a legitimate president for almost four years. Mr. Obama is not, never was and can never be President of the United States by the nature of his birth. So the right of Sgt. Stein to speak out on his Facebook page is fully guaranteed under the First Amendment to the Constitution for any and all citizens.
There are those who would severely question what I have said about Mr. Obama and thereby unknowingly question the need to exercise my capacity for intellectual curiosity. But I have exercised it and in doing so have discovered hard and compelling evidence that Mr. Obama is a well-constructed knave.
We all recall the press conference of April 2011 at which Mr. Obama proudly proclaimed the posting of his long-form birth certificate on the White House website in order, finally, to put to rest all the rumors surrounding his place of birth. Well, some Americans wishing to establish its authenticity downloaded from the official White House website the file in which it was contained.
The file was then placed in Adobe Illustrator for final verification, where it was discovered that the file contained multiple layers and anomalies, some created with a typewriter in 1961 and the rest by a computer in 2011. The Hawaiian long-form birth certificate was, in a word, a forgery.
Sgt. Stein did his own research and as a result knew he could not follow orders from an imposter. Many other members of the U.S. military have spoken out and for their efforts have been discharged as well.
If we do not consider ourselves to be deceitful, delusional, egocentric little lumps of protoplasm with feet, then we are men and women who seek and speak the truth, however ugly it might be and who are not afraid to suffer the consequences for doing so.
Sgt. Stein was one such person who put true honor above it all.
Can we do that?
