U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin, House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello, Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) President and CEO Joanne McGunagle, CCAP Senior Vice President William Hochstrasser-Walsh, along with youth volunteers and staff distributed Thanksgiving baskets to 500 local families in need on Nov. 21.
The original goal of 300 baskets was exceeded through the generosity of individuals and companies, schools and independent groups. Greenwood Credit Union donated the bags, while student volunteers from Cranston High School East filled the baskets.
Each basket contained a complete Thanksgiving meal – a turkey or a gift card for one, along with rolls, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables and dessert – collected through this year’s CCAP “Lending a Helping Hand” holiday food drive.
