Spreading hate

To the Editor:

Will the John DePetro supporters of the world please get one thing straight; no one has ever attacked or attempted to deny John DePetro his freedom of speech. Got that? DePetro can speak and say whatever he wants. As long as he is not advocating violence, his right is protected by the Constitution.

The Constitution, however, does not guarantee him the right to have a radio show. There is a big difference between denying someone their legitimate freedom of speech and urging he be removed from his radio program for a pattern of hate speech.

Many ill-informed people are buying into DePetro’s efforts to make himself into a hero – a champion of and rights of democracy.

He is anything but that. He is a first-class showman who makes money by spreading hate, fear and misinformation among the willfully ignorant.

Are you related to Charles Lawrence? Just wondering why you are not writing to the Johnston Landfill Tribune newspaper and instead subjecting us to this....stuff...here in Warwick? I think poor dear soul Charles may be geographically challenged and yourself? I don't listen to this guy but I wonder if you feel the same way about the twice convicted felon former Mayor who sits in judgement on the radio? Et tu Brute??

Everything this obviously deranged woman stated is pure hypocrisy. She is a cross between a liberal and a government labor union loyalist which is to say she scones commonsense and common decency. Greed has impaired her ability to reason. Dorothy if you want hate, fear and misinformation tune in to MSNBC which I'm sure you do indeed. Peter A. Filippi III

"Hate Speech": Anything with which the far left disagrees. It's the trendy term designed to curtail open debate.

    Against racial quotas? Hate speech.

Marriage between a man and woman? Hate speech.

Acknowledge the link between out of wedlock births and poverty? Hate speech.

To the left, there are simply some things on which silence must be observed. Anything else is, well, you get it.

Dorothy....if you harass someone until they are unemployed, you've silenced them. I don't listen to DePetro but there used to be a saying in this country: I may not like what you have to say but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. It is hateful and vile speech that needs protecting. Nobody needs to protect flowery speech. Grow up and stop your pro-union, thinly disguised 'pro woman' campaign.

Mr. DePetro was wrong to call females whores because of their political views. I would hope you be outraged if someone called your wife, mother or sister a whore, unless of course it were true.

@ bendover If while employed at the radio station Mr. Cianci said something has crass as Mr. DePetro did? Yes.

@ jtaxassoc Hypocrisy? You must know Ms. St Denis well since she does not seem contradict herself in the above statement.

@ JohnStark I agree with your assessment of the left's definition of hate speech. That does not mean what Mr. DePetro said any more appropriate.

@ davebarry109 Mr. DePetro has a right to speak, not to be heard. The NRA has attempted on many occasions to place adds on T.V. They were denied by the networks. When the networks are asked, "Is there anything false in the add?" their reply is, "No". Really your argument is if Mr. DePetro loses his job he loses his inalienable rights? I don't think so. I don't have a talk show and I have been unemployed I never lost my right to speak.
