While all the gardens of the 19th annual Rhode Island Spring Flower and Garden Show provided the sights and fragrance of spring to everyone who attended, several gardens were formally honored for their efforts.
Domina’s Agway, of Portsmouth, R.I., won the Critics’ Council Award, for the garden titled “Your Backyard Escape.” The panel of 12 garden design critics from across New England deemed Marc Domina’s creation the “Best in Show.”
Exhibitors were also asked to vote for their favorite gardens, and Domina’s Agway also took First Place in that Exhibitor’s Award category. Second Place went to the garden sponsored by the Rhode Island Nurserymen and Landscapers Association, titled “Coming Home to Nature,” a woodland scene with a white bridge. Joe Novak, of Novak Garden Design in Cranston, was also popular with his peers. His garden, “The Subtle Appeal of the Minimalist Garden,” took Third Place in the Exhibitors’ vote.
Every person who attended the show was invited to vote for a favorite Garden. The most popular garden among attendees was presented by Tranquil Water Gardens / Earth & Water Landscape, of Cumberland, R.I. Designers Craig Marciniak and Joe Mack’s pink and white tulips with water features had the theme “Once you choose Hope, anything is possible.” That won the People’s Choice Award.
The Second popular favorite was the Rhode Island Nurserymen and Landscapers Association Garden, “Coming Home to Nature.” The Third most popular garden was the “Woodland Retreat” Garden by “Metamorphosis Design” of Portsmouth, R.I., designed by Michelle Sousa.
