Spring events at Warwick Museum of Art

The Warwick Museum of Art (WMOA) located at 3259 Post Road near City Hall offers art camps, films, performing arts and special events for ages 6 and up. The thriving cultural arts center is open Tuesday and Thursday 12:30-8:30 and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 12:30-4:30 pm. April Vacation Art Camp

Schedule and registration form is available on Facebook or stop by during regular hours. Workshops are $25 for three hours of instruction and registration can be taken by phone with MastcerCard or Visa. Workshops for ages 6-11 run from 9-12 noon and include painting, Make a Monster, drawing, CD/album cover art and improv comedy. Workshops for ages 12-16 run from 1-4 p.m. and include drawing, watercolor painting, mixed media, jewelry and improv comedy.

Art Exhibit

“Exploring Digital Arts” showcases works by 21 regional artists who use digital technology to express themselves. Works include photographs, multi-media collages, an iPhone portrait book, a multi-layered hanging, and a video installation.  Most works in the show can be purchased – including the award-winning piece by Warwick artist Krzysztof Matthews. Free and open to the public.

Art Film Series on Tuesdays

Doors open at 6:30 so guests can see the “Exploring Digital Arts” exhibit and screenings start at 7:15. These events are part of a spring partnership with SENE Film Festival and there’s a $3 donation at the door. 

On April 9 “Revealed: Portraits from Beneath One’s Surface” and Q&A with film director Christian de Revendes after the screening. Photographer Scott Indermaur challenged 11 people to place personal objects in a small box to sum up their individuality, then he made formal portraits of them. The film is a fascinating look at what objects reveal about us. (USA 2011, 42 minutes) 

On April 16: “ Shut Up and Look” tells the story of artist Richard Artschwager, an 88-year old American, whose works sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars, yet fame eludes him. The film is an intimate look at a gifted but reclusive artist allows a filmmaker to peek into his studio and colorful personal life.  (USA 2012, 57 minutes) 

On April 23: A showcase of three short films. 

“LA Aboriginal” about the life of dynamic LA artist Dave Tourje who was influenced by the subcultures of surfing, skateboarding, gangs, moto-cross and hot rods (USA 2011, nine minutes). 

“Scramble Vision” is a look at live painters where auditory and visual arts collide in a brilliant fusion of color and energy; this emerging movement captures live music like no other (USA 2011, 36 minutes).  

“Stan Herd: Down to Earth” looks at the life of of international earthwork artist Stan Herd, who grew up on a working farm, went to Art school, and returned home to work with living plants (USA 2012, 27 minutes).

Birthday Parties

Art-themed parties are now being offered on Saturdays from 10:00-12:00 and 1:00-3:00. Two-hour parties include 45 minutes of art instruction with a choice of themes – collage/mixed media, improv comedy, make-a-monster, watercolor painting – and 45 minutes of BYO refreshments.
