St. Barnabas Saturday bazaar may be ‘biggest yet’

If you’re looking to get some Christmas shopping done early, the proud parishioners at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Apponaug may have just what you’re looking for.

Beginning at 9 a.m. and running until 3 p.m. this Saturday, St. Barnabas will hold its annual Holiday Bazaar that Chairwoman Heidi Seddon says “may just be out biggest and best ever.”

“We’ve got a lot to offer this year at the crafts table and you’ll also be able to purchase some beautiful and inspirational religious items,” Seddon said. “Please, come early and enjoy a sweet treat with your morning coffee then browse around for a while and perhaps later visit the Luncheon Café?”

If previous St. Barnabas Bazaars offer any measuring stick, Saturday’s six-hour shopping spree may, in fact, prove to have everything and anything people could want when it comes to planning for the holidays.

There will be handmade crafts and a wide variety of holiday decorations and, Seddon announced, earlier this week, “Our gifts-to-go area will have small gift baskets of perhaps coffee and mugs or kids’ art supplies or maybe even a gift for you child’s teacher.”

Seddon said the theme baskets area would include toys for a little girl or boy, cooking, gardening, home repair and holiday themes for Thanksgiving and Christmas, movie and family game nights.

The always-popular penny social will return along with a separate white elephant room and, as Seddon said with a smile, “People love our Attic Treasures area and you never know what you’ll find there.”

In keeping with tradition, the bazaar will feature several unique raffles that in past years have included special seating for a New England Patriots football game at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro and other quality items like a wide screen television.

But no bazaar, Seddon agreed, would be complete without the baked goods area that she said will be well-stocked with homemade cookies, candy, cakes, pies, squares and other items for a person’s sweet tooth.

There’s plenty of parking around St. Barnabas Church in the lots located around Warwick City Hall, and while Saturday’s bazaar is the parish’s major annual fund-raiser, Seddon said “we’re people to please bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the Westbay Community Food Bank.”
