In an effort to reach more people in need, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church is changing its monthly meal program and will be offering free lunch instead of breakfast on the last Saturday of each month. The change takes effect Saturday, Feb. 25.
The program, which began last spring, is meant for those in the community who find themselves without enough food at the end of each month and is held at the church, 111 West Shore Road. All are welcome. Lunches will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Those who attend the luncheons will also be welcome to take a bag of groceries from the parish food pantry, Reverend Susan Wrathall said.
The program is part of the parish’s ongoing community outreach efforts, which include food drives for the Rhode Island Family Shelter in Conimicut and WestBay Community Action’s Marketplace; holiday baskets for those in need; a winter coat, clothes and personal care items drive for Crossroads RI; participation in the Tomorrow Fund Stroll; and sponsorship of the Ben Haight Memorial Blood Drive. Youth outreach programs include Pennies for UNICEF and the annual Souper Bowl of Caring.
