The St. Peter’s girls’ midget basketball team was worried about its move to Rhode Island Catholic Athletic League Division I, but those worries have disappeared in the team’s 5-0 start. The squad has overpowered its opponents with tenacious defense and aggressive gameplans, and has allowed less than eight points per game.
"This is a group of hard working girls, they live for the game and their teammates, and want to be the hardest working team around," said coach Frank Brown.
Offensively, St Peter’s is getting contributions from the entire roster.
“Every girl on this team can put the ball in the hoop, Brown said. “We are capable of scoring 30-40 points a game. Not too bad for 4th, 5th and 6th graders.”
St.Peter’s now has a break and resumes the season after the New Year and prepares for a match-up with undefeated St. Phillip of Greenville.
